Hello there!

New York may ban iPods while crossing street

See the news story on Reuters.

I’m no fan of the nanny state, but I remember the scrape I had a couple of years ago (which truthfully was as much my fault for listening to my music as the driver’s for trying to jump the lights).

Speed camera fines are proof enough that many people won’t take the correct action by default, so if the prospect of a fine makes people a little more cautious then maybe it’s not such a bad idea.

I remember glancing at this yesterday…

Isn’t this due to people being hit and KILLED by crossing the street?

And the proposed ban extends to all MP3 players and electrical devices, not just iPods.

Seems to me they should just leave it be, this is clearly Darwinism in action.

Thank you, I’m aware it’s not just iPods. That was the title of the article.

Charming. If that motorist had been going much faster I could have been killed.

if you’d stayed on the kerb until all approaching traffic came to a stop, it wouldn’t have mattered how fast he was going :p

We know there’s reckless drivers, seems lunacy to increase your risk and cross listening to music oblivious to shouts of ‘Watch out!’.

Since you’re being so damn clever, I’ll fill you in.

ALL TRAFFIC WAS AT A STOP

The lights were on red turning to amber, and as I was crossing the guy who was second from the front decided to chance it and pull out.

I accept a degree of responsibility for the incident, but smartass comments when you have no idea at all what happened are not welcome.

Comments are welcome. Keep it friendly and on-topic please.
