Voice of movie Megatron all but confirmed
Widespread reports and a post on Michael Bay’s blog all point to Agent Smith himself, Hugo Weaving, playing the Big Bad in the upcoming Transformers movie.
There’s bound to be some complaint from the hardcore fans that Frank Welker (the actor who voiced Megatron in the 80s cartoon and animated movie) wasn’t cast, but those guys will be impossible to please.
I think that is a superb bit of casting.
In any case the important thing is that Peter Cullen has been cast. It won’t matter how different he looks from our childhood toys and imaginations – when he speaks he’ll be Optimus Prime and I’ll be 8 years old.

What about Brian Blessed???
Was he not even considered??
Instead they cast a fairy.

Blessed is criminally overlooked by Hollywood. I think he would have made a good Batman.
Back on the TF movie, I read an ace suggestion on a forum…
Andy Serkis for Starscream!

We’ve been talking about Megatron over at Highbrid Nation. Its still a little hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of Hugo Weaving doing the voice for the character. Maybe I’m just too old school

It would have been nice for us oldies if Welker had done Megatron’s voice, but I don’t think it will be a big deal.
I think Hugo Weaving will be able to bring something very cold and nasty to the role.
There’s always got to be a re-imagining when stories move from comics, videogames etc to film. As X-Men put it: what would we prefer, yellow spandex?
Note: That doesn’t excuse Resident Evil. Damn you, Paul W.S. Anderson. You suck.

*scratches head* Optimus Prime has to be Cullen, but Megatron isn’t a big deal if it is not Welker?
Fair enough I suppose.. just wish they hadn’t gone with Weaving.
He’s hardly what anyone would call a ‘voice actor’, being so bloody bland in every film he’s been in (which worked well for V, but Elrond?).
Eh, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and besides, in that rough draft knocking around last year, he only had a couple of lines at the end, so here’s hoping that is still the case.

I don’t think it’s as big a deal, no.
My memory of Megatron’s voice isn’t really as vivid as Prime’s. Prime had a sort of a John Wayne thing going on, whereas Megatron was just a bit screechy.
I remember the voices of other characters, like Ironhide, Jazz, Starscream etc more.
I would’ve liked Willem Dafoe to voice Megatron, but Hugo Weaving will do.
