No chance iPhone is going to get any significant market share
So says Steve Ballmer.
You know, I had my doubts about the iPhone, but Apple must be breathing a sigh of relief at this resounding vote of confidence.
If that clueless oaf wants us all to know that iPhone is a lemon, then it must be destined for great things.
My 85-year-old uncle probably will never own an iPod, and I hope we’ll get him to own a Zune.
I hope so too. Competition is always healthy, and if Ballmer’s uncle buys one it would double the Zune’s market share.

There’s a lot of really good people at MS these days, sadly Balmer isn’t one of them and every time he opens his mouth he reminds the world of the reasons they hate MS.
He’s possibly the open-soure community’s best advert.
Saying that though, he is right in the fact that in comparison Apple’s market share looks like it is going to be slim. They’re essentially aiming the iPhone at their same iPod audience and either hoping iPod users will upgrade or own both items and provide more incentive for those fence sitters who’ve not yet decided to not purchase an iPod.

MS has some of the industry’s brightest and best no doubt, with many of their subdivisions (eg: MacBU, Xbox, Internet Explorer) doing good work.
It’s a real shame they’re fronted by that fool.
I think everyone, Apple included, expects the iPhone’s share to be slim. They’ve only set a 1% goal for 2008.
If they are going to claim a chunk of the market, it’ll be the inevitable iPhone Nano that does it.
