[THIS TUTORIAL IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS]

simpleContact Pro enables you to export your mailing list to a CSV file.

You should set the csv folder to be writable. You will find it inside sc_admin. Note: you do not need to set any other file or folder in simpleContact Pro to be writable.

The data can then be written to a file and served to you as a download. If your site is hosted on a Unix server, you can set access permissions on files and folders through your FTP application using a command called chmod.

*Windows servers do not support chmod*. You may need to consult your hosting provider for the best way to set permissions. If you are unable to make your csv folder writable all is not lost; simpleContact Pro will write the CSV data to your browser window and you can manually paste it into a text file and save it.

Here are some instructions for how to chmod by FTP with a selection of applications:

Having uploaded simpleContact Pro to your server, select the csv folder on your server, and follow the next steps that refer to the client you are using:

On Windows...

CuteFTP by GlobalSCAPE ($39.99 - free trial available)

FileZilla (free, licensed under GPL)

SmartFTP by SmartSoft ($36.95 - free trial available)

Terrapin FTP

On Mac...

Cyberduck (free, licensed under GPL)

"Get info" on the folder (by pressing command-i or right-clicking and selecting "info" from the menu). Look under "Permissions" in the info panel. If the server allows you to set permissions by FTP the checkboxes will be active. If not, they will be greyed out. Check all the boxes until the setting reads "rwxrwxrwx (777)". Click on "Apply."

Fetch ($25, trial available)

Interarchy ($59, trial available) or Transmit ($29.95, trial available)

"Get info" on the folder (by pressing command-i or right-clicking and selecting "get info" from the menu). Look under "Permissions" in the info panel. Type 777 in the field (labelled "Octal" in Transmit). Alternatively you could check all the boxes. Click on "Apply."
